THE PLAYERS AMATEUR IS CELEBRATING 10 YEARS

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC — A strong field of the world’s best amateur golfers is heading for Belfair’s West course, July 6-12 in nearby Bluffton to compete in the tenth annual Players Amateur. The tournament is presented by Verizon and conducted by the Heritage Classic Foundation with Steve Wilmot as Tournament Director. Included in this year’s field is the 2008 Players Amateur Champion, Mark Anderson. The Beaufort native and USC graduate is currently ranked 18th in the world by Golfweek. The reigning Verizon Junior Heritage champion Curtis Thompson from Coral Springs, Florida has also committed, as well as local favorites Brian Harman and Mark Silvers, both from Savannah, Georgia. Four collegians on Golfweek’s All American First Team are also in the field. Cameron Tringale is a recent Georgia Tech graduate who made this year’s Palmer Cup Team. Australian native Matt Giles will be a junior at the University of Southern California. Morgan Hoffmann, a rising sophomore at Oklahoma State, is currently ranked third in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Jacksonville, Florida native Bud Cauley just finished his freshman year at University of Alabama. Five golfers in The Players Amateur field have also qualified to compete in the 109th US Open Championship beginning June 18th. Watch for Drew Weaver, Cameron Tringale, Vaughn Snyder, Ben Martin and Tyson Alexander as they compete against the best professional golfers in the world.
