TWAY WINS!

Kevin Tway, a rising Oklahoma State senior, rallied on the back nine Sunday to overtake Georgia Tech’s James White and capture the 11th Annual Players Amateur over the tricky Belfair West Course. Tway, son of longtime PGA TOUR star golfer Bob Tway, rolled in a 15-footer for an eagle on the 13th hole to take the lead. Then, he added a rash of birdies coming home to shoot a seven-under par 65 and post a 14-under 274 for the coveted victory. White, who had led the field the first three days, finished with a 7-under par 281 to place second, along with Ethan Tracy, a University of Arkansas junior. Tway’s victory earned him an automatic exemption into the prestigious 43rd annual Heritage to be played over the Harbour Town Golf Links next April. Kevin’s dad, Bob, won the 1995 Heritage. Other previous Players Amateur champions are several who have done well on the PGA TOUR, including Ben Curtis, Bill Haas, Camilo Villegas and Rickie Fowler.
