TWO LEAD THE PLAYERS AMATEUR AFTER THE FIRST ROUND

Bluffton, SC (July 13, 2017) A one hour and five minute weather delay stopped play during the first round of the 18th annual Players Amateur at Berkeley Hall Golf Club’s North Course in Bluffton, South Carolina.

Contestants were taken off the course at 1:50 pm due to lightning in the area and resumed play at 2:55 pm.

Co-leader Andy Ogletree started his round with three consecutive birdies and finished before the weather delay. It was his first time competing on Berkeley Hall’s North course and he said pin locations were challenging. “The greens are pretty fast and there are some tough pin locations out there so putting is a big deal today.” The Georgia Tech sophomore is from Mississippi so he said the heat didn’t bother him as he shot a 4-under 67.

William Rainey also started his day by birdying the first three holes, but he was on the back nine when play was stopped. The Charlotte, North Carolina native is a graduate of the College of Charleston. His caddy, Mary Chandler Bryan is a familiar face to Heritage Classic Foundation staff. She is 2017 RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing Champion Wesley Bryan’s sister.

Bluffton’s Bryson Nimmer finished the round tied for sixth place at 2-under 69 and Hilton Head Island’s Will Miles will start the second round at plus-three 74.
