BLUFFTON’S BRYSON NIMMER SHARES THE LEAD GOING INTO THE FINAL ROUND

Bluffton S.C. – (July 15, 2017) Bryson Nimmer and Theo Humphrey share a three stroke lead going into the final round of the 18th annual Players Amateur at Berkeley Hall Club’s North Course.

Storms rolled into the area Saturday afternoon disrupting the last 10 groups on the course, including Nimmer and Humphrey. Contestants were taken off the course at 2:51 pm and didn’t resume play until 4:42 pm.

Bluffton’s Bryson Nimmer didn’t let the delay affect his game. He shot 6-under for the day to bring his three-day total to a 10-under 203. He was on the 15th green when play resumed and scored 4-under on the back 9 holes. The Clemson junior thought the rain helped, “The course was a little softer. It made it a little more scorable I think. Some of those pins coming in were a little tough if we played them before the weather delay but since we had the weather delay I think it was a little easier.” Nimmer held the second round lead at the 2016 Players Amateur held on the South Course.

Humphrey shot 4-under for the day bringing him to a three round 10-under 203.  The Vanderbilt senior from Greenwich, Connecticut said he struggled a bit with ball striking during his round, “It wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t up to the standard it had been the first two days. I just made some key up and downs when I needed to keep momentum.” He was on the 12th fairway when the storm hit. He was 2-under on the front nine and 2-under on the back.

University of Virginia’s Danny Walker and College of Charleston Grad William Rainey are in second place 3 shots back at 7-under 206.

The final round will begin Sunday at 7:30 off the 1st and 10th tees. Tournament officials made the decision because the weather forecast calls for afternoon storms.
