Bluffton, SC (July 11, 2014) Twenty-six year old Garrett Rank dominated the second round leader board at the Players Amateur Presented by Nautica and in the process earned himself the competitive South course record at Berkeley Hall Club. The previous record was 63.
The University of Waterloo graduate lives in Elmira, Ontario and makes a living as a referee for the American Hockey League. The twenty-six year old carded 6 birdies on the front nine and followed them up with an additional four on the back.
He is optimistic heading into the third round, “I am just going to continue to stay really patient out there,” he said after his round, “hit really good shots and see what happens.” His two day total was an 11- under 133.
Two well-known names at the Players Amateur finished the day 5 strokes back. Defending champion and Vanderbilt senior Hunter Stewart shot 3-under for the day, earning him a two day total of 138. South Carolina’s Matt NeSmith followed up his first round 68 with a 2-under round putting him tied for the second place position.
University of Georgia’s Nick Reach finished up at 5-under for the forth place spot heading into the weekend.
Matt Hanson carded a hole in one on #16 by hitting a 9 iron 145 yards.
Play was suspended at 1:40 pm due to storms in the area. Players were back on the course at 2:06 pm.
