VANDERBILT JUNIOR WINS THE PLAYERS AMATEUR

Bluffton, SC (July 15, 2018) – John Augenstein, who was the 54-hole leader, shot a final round 4-under 67 to win the 19th annual Players Amateur at Berkeley Hall Golf Club with a four day total of 16-under.

The Kentucky native has a history of playing well on the North Course. Last year, he shot three rounds in the 60s and finished tied for fifth.  Augenstein, who grew up vacationing on Hilton Head Island, earned an exemption into the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing, South Carolina’s only PGA TOUR event. The 51st event will take place April 15-21, 2019.

Finishing four shots behind Augenstein, was Florida Gator Andy Zhang who earned the second place spot. Ohio State’s Will Grimmer tied for third at 11-under par.

Thomas Walsh, who celebrated a birthday on Saturday, earned the North Course’s competitive course record with his final round score of 62.

Hilton Head native Will Miles had a notable final round. He shot a 65 and finished the tournament tied for 19th place.

Bluffton’s Bryson Nimmer finished tied for 16th and Georgia Southern’s Steven Fisk ended the tournament tied for 38th.
